Useful Packs that should be in more than 1 range?

Pretty well by chance a couple of weeks ago I came across EC 25 and EC 26 in the ECW subset of the renaissance ranges.  They are Gabions and Artillery Equipment respectively.  The former contains 10 good sized and nicely modelled gabions, and the latter a mix of barrels, buckets, piles of differently sized cannon balls, and other containers.  Having purchased a few I am very impressed, but wonder why they are hidden away in one range, when I think they would have much wider utility through a range of periods.  Should they go into the scenery and basing range, or a new accessory range?  What do folks think?  Does anyone care?

I think the same can be said for many items in other ranges too. But of course there are different categories. Some can be used straight away for another army, or another period. For artillery, it may mean swapping the crew. For other items, they can fall in the 'can be used as such and such (with a little work)' category.
I think it would be useful to split off the first category (i.e. all more or less 'generic' items) in a separate 'Accessories' range. With a clear description, and a note of their original timeframe. Or maybe split into different periods, but as you note already, some items can be used in different periods. I think it would work better than listing them in several ranges.
For the other categories, maybe some kind of cross-reference is all that is needed. But it will take someone who knows enough about the period and the armies in question to create such a thing. And it means a lot of work and time, so maybe some kind of community effort is in order? Also, I don't know if any kind of cross-reference could be implemented in the online shop? Which leaves the question of what form a cross-reference should take? Different people will have different opinions on what can and cannot be used for another army or another period.

We can make any item in the website appear in as many different ranges as we want, so that's not a problem.

I've been meaning to put together a section of things which are Generic/Universal for the website, because there are things all over which can be used in a variety of era's.  As you say, the ECW artillery equipment, we've also got things like the Chevaux de Frise in the Ottoman range, the various wagons, stowage and ammuntion boxes, oxen, horses, pack mules, etc, etc, etc.!

I'll see if I can get it done over Xmas and added to the website.

That would be good - a number of times I have hunted through going "They MUST do it, surely".

Somewhere to put the dead horses (not that I'm obsessive or anything)

A grouping of the various useful bits on the website would be great - there is a number times I have discovered all sorts of bits in random ranges, that would be useful elsewhere.

Leon if you need help compiling a list, then tell the forum what format you need the info in and I'm sure we can all chip in suggestions.

Basically just the code number for now, and if necessary, a time frame for it's use.  For example, the Chevaux de Frise in the Ottoman range is useful from Medieval upto the WWI even, if I remember right?  Then depending on how many codes there are, I'll split them up into categories, and create a new section for them, with the code, description, which range it's from originally, and what use it has.

Any help/suggestions would be great, I'll go through a catalogue myself when I get chance as well.

Cheers for the list, I'll print that off.  I've just added the LC to the Sea Vessels section as well.
