Hello,

I see that Kallistra have started a WW1 Russian range.  Are they  similar size to Pendraken ?  I'm sure I've seen  something saying they are slightly larger  , more 12mm .

Their figures are significantly larger and more bulky, but not beyond the range of normal variation in human size (my wife, tall for an east Asian, has to stand on the first step to kiss me comfortably when I come home). I'd avoid mixing industrially-made tanks or artillery, mind you.

Same old question, same old answer.

Pendraken are 10mm figures and Kallistra are 12mm figures.

It's not that simple. Pendraken Fantasty is 12mm

Pendraken historical is 10mm

Much of kallistra's fantasy started out as Pendraken hence why the rest of kallistra ranges have stayed 12mm. No idea where Pendraken ended up with the size difference though.

When I became interested in starting an August 1914 Belgian army in 10mm I looked at four manufacturers: Van Dyck Miniatures, Pendraken, Irregular and Kallistra. Van Dyck miniatures are sold as 1/144 figures, i.e. 12mm scale. I was able to compare these with the other three manufacturers and discovered that there was very little difference between Van Dyck, Pendraken and Irregular. However the Kallistra figures were significantly bigger and incompatible. My advice would be go with Pendrndraken and Irregular (who also do 10mm Russians) or go with Kallistra. I wouldn't mix the BIG Kallistra 12mm with the others. Incidentally Pendraken do a very nice range of earlier war Austrians (apart from the dragoons and uhlans which are not really appropriate as they have been shipped in from the French and German ranges - the hussars however are excellent figures).

The Fantasy figures were done by a new sculptor at the time so he'd done them to his own version of '10mm' and not to match our historicals unfortunately.  Then Kallistra licensed our figures to put on strips and from there they expanded with their historical ranges to match the 12mm size.

I have Kallistra War ot the Roses medieval armies, (Actually about 1/2 completed, so amazing for me!), and they are noticeably bigger figures. You could mix units on table but I wouldn't want to...and I think mixing figures within units would look very odd. Then, again, I am using Pendraken WW2 infantry and softskin vehicles with 1/144 armour...so, whatever.
