Weird WWI American SPAD

I have in other posts mentioned this project of a WWI American army based off of the books by Joseph Nassise - "The Great Undead War". One of the elements will be a Flier of the SPAD flown by one of the main characters - Jack Freeman. He described his SPAD XIII as having a Jack of Spades painted on the lower wing to let the allied troops in the trenches now that he was there in action - his being the leading American ace now that Rickenbacker was dead. To help understand this a little better, the year is 1921 and the war has raged on for 7 years now.







Yes, I know - that's not a WWI camo scheme for a French made SPAD. I am very familiar with the various yellow and 5 tone color schemes including having several vintage pieces of fabric from them in my aircraft fabric collection. However this one is actually the camo scheme as accepted by the US Air Service in 1920-21 - the colors being reddish-purple (described as mauve), straw and dull green black. The mauve shade in my pictures shows up much more pink than it actually is, but at least you will get the idea. The Jack of Spades playing card on the lower wing is the other custom decal I ordered and it is truly awesome work because that is only about 3.5 MM tall!! The pattern is from the one used on the Roland D.VI at McCook Field in 1920.



More on this army as it get's closer to completion, and then I'll post the entire army when it's done.
