I've seen pictures of these vehicles or something very like them towing 17pdr AT Guns in Germany post-war (late 40's?). Having seen these pictures one has to wonder where all the gun crew sat and where did they put the ammo for the 17pdr let alone all their kit!

Nice model of a vehicle I wasn't previously aware of...you learn something new everyday.

fred.

Crusader's without turrets were used to tow 17pdr in 1944 onwards, I think mainly in Corps AT regiments. They at least are a bigger hull, but I suspect there wasn't too much room for ammo.

Another great model, I hope you have been working on these for a while, not that you are producing these In the time between each posting.

Thanks guys!

I made three models in a row, each time (and some figs in between)! it takes about 3/4 days to do it. That's why I love airbrushes!

Crusader's without turrets

From: http://www.dday-overlord.com/eng/crusader_gun_tractor.htm

Crusader Gun Tractor history

When the gun QF 17 pounder (76.2 mm) was created, the British gunners wanted to have a vehicle to tow it on all terrains and in all weather conditions. The Ruston & Hornsby company used the chassis of the Crusader tank and installed an open space at the top. The new device, called Crusader Gun Tractor, becomes the main tracked artillery tractor of the British army.

At the rear of the tractor, spaces are dedicated to the transportation of ammunitions. (My emphasis)

Due to its ability to cross and its speed, it is also employed as an armored reconnaissance and command vehicle for artillery regiments.

The Crusader Gun Tractor was used during the Battle of Normandy in 1944.
