Assault vs Column rule is simply, if you assault a line with more than one column units from the same direction, then only one of these columns fight, the others just give supports. We altered it further to include every assault situation, if more than one units assault another from the same direction, one of them fights and the others just support. It stops situations like three columns smashing a line in one turn and encourages more historical gameplay like some units from the attacking force forming column and assault and others forming line in shooting range and engage in a firefight.

Good report on Montenotte. The French Republic period is quite attractive. The tabletop was very well done - like how you constructed the mountain pass.
