PPW7 and 8 on the bottom line, taller puklehaube with an obvious band down the back are 8. Bottom right is Jager officer from PPW13
Top line Left two are PPW9
Command in puklehaub are PPW11 (someone asked for no cast on flags)
Command in cap is possibly PPW14 Landwher?

It won't be PPW14 as they are in greatcoat and wearing the Shako. More likely to be Saxons as the Bavarian command pack is in crested helm.

Fair point Leman, I've inly got 1866 Saxons.

No, it is definitely the Prussian in Model 1860 pickelhaube. I have hundreds of them!

Can I use the guys in 1860 kit for the FPW?

Was it common for units to wear both the pickelhaube and the  feldmutze?

Hi Alan,

Yes, you can use the ones in the M1860 helmet for FPW. This has nothing to do with "they are all so small you can get away with anything" line of reasoning, although I use this argument to allow the guys in the M1867 helmet to serve in 1866!  In fact the transition was still in progress when the war started in 1870, and large numbers of M1860 were still in service. If you want to be totally accurate about it, if you do the Saxon Corps (XII), they should only have the M1867, as they did not adopt the Pickelhaube until after 1866, and they were all the new style.

Your second question is a good one, and I know I do mix them, because I like variety on my bases for this period. That said, I think it highly likely that units probably did try and have a single 'order' of dress at a time.  But, it is your army, and your choice, and no-one can say, categorically, that all units, on every occasion, in both wars, only wore one or the other at a time.  Welcome to a completely brilliant period.

You didn't ask (!) but the Saxons retained the peaked feldmutze in 1870, so they should not have the peak less ones.  Hope this helps,
