Depends what you class as excessive profits though I suppose?  The hire of the ExCeL is at least £75,000, plus they've got to pay extra to hire the venue's security staff I believe.  Tables, chairs, event insurance and advertising will come to a tidy sum on top of that, plus the giveaway bags and paying the club members to turn up and help out on the day.  I'm sure they make a nice bit of money at the end of it, but so would I after spending over £100k to put on an event!

QuoteToo far, too busy, too noisy, far too expensive, nothing I can get there that I can't get anywhere else.

Well I hadn't planned on going but then I was asked by an a friend (Michael Leck of Dalauppror fame) to help out with their Lion Rampant demo game. I couldn't refuse. Otherwise I would not have bothered going.

I agree that it is a bit far, as for me it's around 6 hrs driving there and back. It is noisy but you can escape into the main concourse for a break or to the riverside. £12 is a bit steep but then Leon's post re: the costs involved put it into perspective. It is certainly very well organised and easy to get around. Last year I didn't feel it was too busy at all, given that there were around 6,ooo attendees if memory serves me correctly. personally I like to look at the games on display, have a look at what's new, meet up with friends and have a chat. Shopping is secondary for me, even though I will be picking stuff up.

I'll see what's left over after Salute and might put a list up here.  If there's much left we'll be bringing it all up to Falkirk as well.

:-\

I thought it was listed as being from Stockton-on-Tees.

Middlesbrough is historically part of North Yorkshire - as its south of the River Tees

Stockton-on-Tees is historically part of County Durham - as its north of the River Tees

So, is Battleground a North Yorkshire show? Or a County Durham show?

And, yes, these things do matter [to a Yorkshireman!]  :D

Lister: "Oh God, aliens... Your explanation for anything slightly peculiar is aliens, isn't it?

Rimmer: "Well, we didn't use it all, Lister. Who did?"

Lister: "Rimmer, aliens used our bog roll?"

It should be a North Yorkshire show Roy as the venue is technically on the south side of the Tees  :) :)

I'm a minimum of 416 miles away according to Google...

No matter how many time I ask - or how nicely - Google refuses to give me the driving distance  :(
