Wow, that looks good! And highly interesting as well because of the original set-up. It reminds me a bit of the original 1824 Kriegspiel. Was that a source of inspiration to you?

Could you tell us one of these days how you made the canvas?

The battlefield is a painting made from the original french general staff map of the area of Metz from 1911, originally, it's 1:80 000  and here is 1:4 000

I like a lot the principles of Von Reisswitz's Kriegspiel but to play such a big battle with these rules, it's difficult. I use '1870' instead.

Le Manchou, looks very cool indeed. So are these armies built and based for the 1870 rules?  I like those rules for that period as well.  I have the 1859 rules but as of yet, have not played them, nor built armies for them - gonna do them in 10s

I play with 1870 rules but the bases indicated by the rulebook were too small, so I changed to squares of 4cm per side. What you saw on the picture is a little part of my collection. I have painted about 11 000 miniatures so far, counting cavalry as one, and plan to paint at least 5 000 more. I plan to do the biggest wargame in the world, with an area covering all the North of Alsace and Lorraine and the complete order of battle. It would be more than a 1 000 square meters. Right now I already did 82,5, and the picture was just a 5 square meters table. I will need at least three more years to complete this project. I plan also to represent campaign hospitals, engineers, camps, etc... This game would need around 30 players, from the Corps level to the general headquarters. The game would be organized in France probably around Saumur on the beautiful Loire valley, it would cover the first 15 days of the imperial campaign , and would be 15 days long. If some of you could be interested, just let me know. Here is my blog which covers the progress of the project. It's unfortunately in french.

Hello everybody, the 1870 project advanced well. I now have a little bit more than 16 000 miniatures (counting cavalry as one and limber teams as five), I have a little bit more than 300 Sqm, covering a large part of Lorraine including the battles of Mars-la-Tour, Gravelotte St Privat and Borny as well as Pont-à-Mousson, Nancy, Thionville, etc... here is a picture of the miniatures.
