Warmaster Empire

Hello all!

I've just started working on 10mm ever since the world of Warhammer Fantasy blew up.  Since now Warhammer won't be supported anyways, I thought I might try playing another forgotten game: Warmaster.  I got the rulebook and realized I should have been playing this game all the time.  (And at some point I may try Warbands!)

But at the moment I really want to try to make a Warmaster Empire army, and as Warmaster models are ludicrously priced on ebay, I've gotten to work with Pendraken ones.

So I've done some work to make Empire knights and to make Steam Tank.  Next will be Pistoliers, Flaggellants and Halberdiers.

Please let me know what you think!  10mm is very new to me as I'm used to 28mm.  Also, I am still a newbie with green stuff, so some of the additions are a little sloppy.

I tried to add feathers and capes to the knights to make them a bit more fantasy like.

Hi Tiberius, welcome to Pendraken land!

I'm liking your Empire figures. Good move to go with new figures, rather than trying to put together an army off eBay - it would be expensive and slow to build a WM army using GW figures now.

The FT based steam tank is inspired, its cool.

The knights have worked too, the big plumes are reminiscent of the the GW style figures.

Which figures are you thinking of for the Flagellents?

There are a few options for Pistolliers - I'd be tempted by the League of Augsberg Cuirassiers

Welcome

Lovely start to your collection. Agree with Fred the FT for the steam tank is inspired. I might have to steal that idea
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Hi Tiberius,

welcome to the forum. As a long time fan of Warmaster (I played my first game the week before it was officially launched and was instantly hooked!) always nice to see others having fun with it.

Love the figures, especially the Steam Tank - very cool!

I did a unit of Flagellants for a friend and used ELM37 Monks (1 armed) from the Pendraken European Late Medieval range.

As suggested by the description only one pose has a weapon so I added lengths of very fine jewellers chain to the others plus adding some scrolls from some cheap, thin paper that came in as an advertising flyer to make some scrolls and 3 or 4 of them got purity seals made of a tiny "v" of paper and a small dot of Milliput (left from other conversions).

Thanks for your welcomes and compliments!

Fred:  I actually already bought some ECW Cavalry in Helmet, but I was looking closely at Augsburg Cuirassiers, and only switched at the last second.  The Cuirassiers look a little more defined, but I liked the armor on the ECW ones.  I will probably start painting those next.

Fenton: Thanks!  I've love to see someone else's vision for it.  When I ordered the model I didn't realize how small FT tanks are.  I love how the model turned out, but it is just a little small.  I'm thinking at some point I may try another steam tank with a MkIV and maybe pop my extra FT turret and a smoke stack on top of it.

Jim:  Thanks for your post, I will be checking out your page a lot as I try to build my army!  I do really like how full your knights look on a stand.  I'm still working on getting that fullness with these knights.

Ithoriel: I am really excited to play some games of Warmaster (haven't actually played yet...).  I just got the rulebook a few months ago, and it made me terribly sad I never discovered it sooner (and I have been playing warhammer off and on since 2002!).  Overall it seems to be a much better game that WHFB ever was.  When I found Pendraken and the cheap models I realized I could make several armies for half the price of one WHFB army.  Having multiple armies myself it may be the only way I can get people to play with me.  And in the mean time I have plenty of modeling projects to keep me busy.
Also the idea of the jewelers chain is brilliant!  I just ordered some of those monks a couple days ago and was trying to figure out how I would be giving them weapons.  When I made my WHFB flaggelents, I wanted them to look most like traditional monks so I am very excited for these models.  Do you by chance have any pictures of those?  The scrolls are brilliant as well.

Mad: Thanks!

Also I'm not entirely sure what to do for Halberdiers.  I don't love the pictures I've seen of the Landsknechts, but I think I may try to add blades to the Scots Short Pikes.  Thanks for your help!

They're cracking!

Can I second the LoA cuirassiers? I have some awaiting painting as "not-Empire" troops for Impetus Fantasy as well, help my Italian Wars stuff morph into "not-Empire/not quite any set period" fantasy armies ;)

Still have that big Warmaster dragon to paint up, so one day I may Warband them as well.

For Halberdiers, the new Jedburgh Stavemen have bladed pole weapons and light armour so would fit the stat line.

To be honest, they could be any lightly armoured infantry with hand weapons. Pikemen are a popular alternative in my experience.

I can honestly say that I've not really understood a word of this thread, but welcome Tiberius.

I did understand Renault FT. That bit I got. The rest. No.

But it's lovely work.
