Ive got a number of sci-fi armies in 6 and 10mm that havent seen the light of day for some time that I would love to get back on the table including space marine, space ork, squats, pax arcadian, kraytonian, aliens and colonial marines.

I primarily gamed with FWC but it didn't really float my boat :(

What other sci-fi rules are people using that they might recommend?
I don't think my wife likes me very much, when I had a heart attack she wrote for an ambulance.

I like Angel Barracks free KR-16 rules. Simple and fun, but very much a skirmish game with individual bases. I tried Gruntz but despite rave reviews just didn't work for me.

Cheers Steve. Do the KR16 rules include vehicles and Titans/War machines etc?

I am honour bound to suggest Gruntz, but only because the author is a friend. I've also heard good things about Tomorrow's War, but not actually used them.

As the Angel Barracks rules are free and they are designed for 6mm, IIRC, then I'd suggest starting with those - http://angelbarracks.co.uk/rules.html

Thanks for putting the link up Neil :). KR-16 does cover vehicles, but not walkers from memory, but then I've haven't played the latest update. Osprey are bringing out some sci-fi rules soonish that look quite good from the demo game I saw at Blast-Tastic.

We still play Epic for all of our 6mm scifi, the net version is below.

The other one we quite liked (but admittedly haven't played in ages) was Dirtside by Ground Zero Games, takes a bit more work to get things ready, but it's primarily designed for vehicles with Infantry an Add on.  Their star grunts, is more for bigger scales and is Infantry based with the occasional vehicle.

We did try FWC and despite being big fans of BKC, it didn't quite feel right as scifi.

A second vote for Epic.   Just love this game and our group usually play this
every Friday.

I particularly enjoy swapping the initiative back & forth throughout the turn
and the huge variety of tactical options this brings.

Some pics of my figures and games in progress :

Another vote for Epic from me too.

Fun to play even if the rules are very retro and easy to slot in other manufacturers troops.

I'm eyeing up the Onslaught 6mm Battle Sisters and Okami Combine figures and trying to justify buying some despite having scores of Imperial vehicles and hundreds of figures still unpainted!

I've even played a couple of small Epic games in the past using 10mm figures on 30mm square bases - mainly old style Pendraken humies as Imperials vs assorted Giger-esque Aliens as Tyranids. Much fun was had ... even if my troops did largely wind up as lunch :(

Also - love your Epic stuff Phil!

I've enjoyed Epic Armageddon which I only started playing this year - built up a fairly large Tyranid army fairly quickly. And it has grown insect since the photo below. Some kind of freudian typo there...

I quite like the basic rules, they give a good game. There are a few bits that take a bit of getting used too, and there are definitely some tactics that are non-obvious.  The army lists take a bit of getting your head around - partly in mapping units to figures, and partly due to the many special rules either for units, or just for constructing the army.

Also you will find there are umpteen (well at least 3) versions of Epic around and each has very different army lists, and somewhat different rules.

Hi

I've had fun with Seeds of War, written by Dark Realm Miniatures for their ranges, of course using what I had on hand and modifying. http://www.darkrealmminiatures.co.uk/downloads/

I've also used Get Some! Future Warfare. http://freewargamesrules.wikia.com/wiki/Get_Some!_Future_Warfare

I'd recommend going through the stuff listed at the Free Wargames Wiki http://freewargamesrules.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Science_Fiction

Tried Quadrant 13 by the Lardies but didn't like that rule set.

Dirtside II is also fun http://shop.groundzerogames.co.uk/index.php?_a=category&cat_id=130

Cheers

TFL do a SF version of IABSM called Quadrant 13

I just got a copy of Laserstorm from Nordic Weasel games and they are very good. Quick, simple and bloody  but with some interesting C&C and the unit design rules are excellent
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Laser Storm looks good but ... pdf only? Meh, not interested!
