Are you going for 100x50mm bases or a bit smaller?

Splitting the swords and spears is probably a good idea - then if you want to upgrade one unit with shield wall or something you can more easily identify on the table.

Yes I'm using 100x50 bases but not using a large number of Elf infantry on each base to give a "thin blue line" look. At the moment I'm thinking of a blue/white or blue/yellow paint scheme for the uniforms.

I need to find myself some suitable flag designs too.

So much painting to be done and so little free time ! :(

Personally I like Blue and White for Elves.

The thin blue line look should be cool - make the elves look like the few elite warriors, rather than a horde of goblins or undead.

Mine are white drybrush over blue ink wash, them blue shields and trim.
