Funnily enough I use two ranks of 6 Baccus in BBB on my 30mm square bases, simply because it looks better. Similarly I have now moved to two ranks of 4 in 10mm on my 25mm square SYW bases. Troops were pretty snug in the age of linear warfare.

As an advantage you can get the bases snug against each other when they hit close combat... even in non-18ft pointy stick warfare I sometimes find over enthusiastic basing means someones rank of bayonets sticks out a little to far for easy use :D

That was something I was very concious of when working out my AWI basing, front rank is well back to allow for muskets and bayonets ;)
