Hi there, a week ago i asked for some tips on doing skin.  Ive applied the various advice i was given and come up with this.

Im really trying to improve my painting, ive only been doing this for a short while and i can see a defiante improvement, if you poke around you can find other pics of mine in there.

Id appeciate any comments and constructive critisism.  Ill be going back to do his robe and weapons later today.

Thanks in advance
Brian

No advice needed i'd say.  Pretty much table-ready quality there.  Very good.

What technique did you use?

Something i find useful to blend things together is a wash.

50:50 mix of GW Devlan mud or Gryphonne Sepia and water washed over the skin before a final highlight works well i find.

looks fine to me for a playable figure. To be honest I prefer this style to the harsh contrast types. At the end of the day what matters is that you are happy with it.
Sometimes I wonder - why is that frisbee geting bigger - and then it hits me!

Thanks :)

Grey undercoat, then washed the flesh in Vallejo Game Colour Ink.
Then put a slightly thinned cover of Medium Fleshtone over that.
Then added a drop of Basic Skintone and added then as a mild highlight to the muscles and face.
Then added a drop of Light Flish to that and picked the tip of the nose, the tops of muscles and knuckles.

Ive just taken some higher res shots, there in the same folder.

Gonna do the Robe next, im thinking a rich blue.

Laters all.

Agreed. Unless your looking at entering a painting competition, you are at good table top quality already. Nice work :)

Looks fine to me Brian - have you thought about a re-wash [thinned ink] & re-touch of final highlight? It's a touch more to do, but it'll give you a bit of additional depth that will make the figure 'pop' a bit...

My worry with doing that is that ill drown the colour gradients ive allready done.  The inks i have are very very strong.  Its the vallejo game ink set.  Any advice on using these would be great too.

Luddite

Mix them with water.

Start maybe with 90% water : 10% ink (or less) if you're worried about over-staining.

Use light colour inks first.  Remember the point of an ink wash is 'tone and blend' not 'colour'.

One thing...make sure when doing this, the water is crystal clear and the brush you use is completely clean...
