Thank you for the advice on the lighting.  I will try it with my nest batch of pictures.

Definitely follow Paul's tip, re the lighting. 
You should be well pleased with the improvement.
Looks like you've done a fine job on the wee men, and it'll be great to see them more clearly.

Thanks for all of the advice on getting better pictures. Painting continues, slowly right now, but I should be able to pick up the pace over the next few weeks. Six infantry, two artillery and three cavalry units finished.
