so do you put the wood filler on and press the figures into it or glue the figures on and wood filler around them?

Put on a layer of filler, and press the figures in. Then poke around with a cocktail stick to get rid of any bumps.

Takes a while (overnight) to dry, but once dry it's nice and solid.

It seems slow at the time, but has so many less steps than glue figures, glue sand, seal sand, paint sand. That I think it is quite a bit quicker overall. I think it represents mud / wet ground much better than sand bases too.

Not much painting recently, but managed a bit last night and late this afternoon.

Darkened up the bases on the lizardmen, so they blend with the basing material and tidied up any white bits showing on the green of their skin. Then today did some basing

Shot from above to give more of a view of the different colours to represent jungle plants.

The next step is to add various bits of foliage to give a 3D look to the jungle plants

Done a bit of a count up of what's still to do on this army

Add plastic foliage to bases - approx 40.

Base - 6 stands of Salamanders

Ready to Paint
Lizard Riders - 4 painting sticks
Infantry - 4 painting sticks
Flyers - 4
Big Dinosaurs - 3
Command figures

To Base Coat
Approx 15 bases of Lizardmen (the same again as painted above). The next job is to get these onto painting sticks - then hope for a decent bit of weather....
2 Large Dino riders

Magnetic basing - lots and lots

In a change of direction - I bought a big lot of Jacobite Rebellion Scots and British second hand. A lot of the British were painted but very few of the scots. But they are on 20mm squares - so I have been doing some cutting up of the plastic card they are on, to allow some rebasing. Onto 40mm squares, 2 deep lines for the formed troops and masses for the highlanders.  The figures needed a bit of a tidy up after shipping, so I thought it was a good opportunity to re-base them.

Also as the highlanders are based 5-6 on a 20mm square, I'm not sure how I would paint them anyway.

I think I will use Victorian Steel rules for this, even if they are aimed at 100 years later - but I hope they will represent the asymmetric forces quite well.

Surely they would be comatose at night, being cold-blooded....

Wouldn't want to meet them anywhere - without a mountain range in between.

This hasn't been going well has it!!

I've been massively distracted by Epic Armageddon - yes, years old Sci Fi rules. I've never really gamed Sci Fi before - despite really liking SF books.  I have been building a Tyranid army - I know little of the 40k background, but am happy to build an eat your face bug army. This is rather different from my Fantasy armies which are generally quite shooty.

I've bought a lot of stuff (very little from Pendraken, hence no photos)  - and have been painting it as it arrives though the door - in fact slowness of deliveries is holding up painting now! The last delivery (from Pendraken!!) of 10 alien creatures. Half of these are painted and based already - and they only arrived on Thursday.

Here's a couple of WIP photos

I suppose I better get something together for the painting comp - really should have done this yesterday as it was sunny for much of the day - unlike today which is a serious return of winter.
