why is that our SO's continually moan about our hobby :Ph mine had another moan yesterday about it, asked me what I was doing just a general question from her

Me "I am looking at the Pendraken website"  :)

her "Why are you going to buy more figures"

me "no jut looking"

her "I don't see why you need to buy more when you have a pile that's is getting larger by the week, most of it unpainted"

me  :o that's one thing you should not say to a wargamer I think to myself, safer to not say it out loud.

my solution to all this = buy more, so I placed another order with Pendraken  =O =O =O

no doubt I shall suffer for it in due course, and suffer it I shall  ;D

Hmmm, I know the feeling, but then I retort along the lines of "how many shoes/handbags/coats etc does a women need? Tends to end in an amicable (if I'm lucky :D) truce.

old smokie

I shall need to remember that retort, she is a shoe and handbag fanatic, some of them running into 3 and 4 figures costs

thanks Steve J  :)

Mine's the other extreme; minimal interest in acquiring anything. Makes birthday shopping tricky.

My Mrs is also not really into acquiring anything for herself and just does not understand my need to acquire 'stuff' as she calls it. I have a book mountain as well as a toy soldier mountain and boy do I get any grief if anything new arrives though the post. I sometimes use the trick others have mentioned of having 'stuff' posted to work then smuggle it home.
Thankfully both my daughters are into acquiring their own sort of 'stuff' so they do defend their poor old Dad although they then fleece me for more pocket money!

My main argument is that I don't smoke and rarely drink whereas Ma Subs does both, on occasion both at the same time. So I spend my pocket money on my hobby, be it brushes, paints, figures or whatever. Another angle is that if I am painting or wargaming she knows where I am as opposed to going down the pub or out down town to pi** it away every night.

PS In the past I have also used 'work' as a dropping off point for deliveries, now I just say that I've ordered some figures. If she asks how much the normal response is less than a tenner, thereby using their own logic against them. If Ma Subs comes home with something new the price when I ask is always £5 or £6 or some other whole value. What she always neglects to add on is the 99p part of the price so instead of £5 it actually cost £6 all but a penny and so on.

My Ex used to do this a lot - hence she is my Ex.

I currently have no issues at with stuff at home, apart from the space it takes up - but I have my own Den and the loft over the garage is mine.Eldest step daughter is looking to move out and i haved tacit agrement that \i can use it for a more permanent gaming table as long as we can get a sofa bed in there.

I have other hobbieis but they are significantly moreexpensive than a Wargaming, the most i get is a What have you been buying with a smile and roll of her eyes.  I then go into an excited description of 20mm Figures or 10mm Tanks and when and where they were used and how it fits in with my colection/Army.  By the second sentance she wishes she had never asked  ;)

Mrs Orcs is into cake decorating - sent me to shop for colourings etc this week., and also got me to make a Frame for a specuial cake for her youngest daughter. total cost over £30 and 2 hours in the garage making and painting the frame.  So not much she can say.

HER: Why are you buying more figures? Look at this pile of unpainted stuff.

HIM: Why are you buying more make up?  Look at this pile of unused stuff.

HER: It's called Retail Therapy. I want, I need it, and I can afford it.

(Pause.)

HIM: Here's my Christmas List.

I always used to ask my ex if she would prefer me to pop down the pub for the evening or stay in and paint figures.

Apparently, she would have preferred that I just sat and did nothing.

Hence the ex.

My wife didn't know much about my stuff before we got married mostly because that was my "dark period" for wargaming where for about 5 years I didn't paint, buy or play.

A few years after we got married I brought out my stuff and painting again and also bought more figures. She didn't question the packages which came in the mail but when she saw me paint she asked where I got the figures. For a year or so I told her I had them prior to our marriage. After a while she quit asking but now knows what comes in the brown padded envelopes from the UK.

She's never asked me how much things cost and I've never told her.

Before she met me my missus had a boy friend who was fanaticall about footy.

As far as she's concerned any time I spend 'doing toy soldier stuff' (her phrase) is a small price to pay for not going to footy matches all over the country.

Also she like doing 'Art' so we often end up at the dining table with me paining figures and her doing something artistic, or knitting.

FierceKitty

Paining figures? You sadist.

I will stand up and support the Wargamers better halfs as mine is an angel. Not only does she not complain aaabout the money/time I throw at the hobby, she encourages me by DEMANDING a list of toys I would like so she has ideas for christmas and birthday presents. :D

She is one in a million   :x :x
