Now I pass to the infantry...the carrying straps like the german ypsilon for the knapsack, was issued only to the men who don't carry cartridge pouch...in simple words, non fighting soldiers.
Usually the fighting men carried the haversack and cartridge pouch on the belt for the whole of the conflict.
