T-34 in Action by Drabkin is presently £3.08 for the Kindle at Amazon.

This is one of the most interesting books that I have read on tank warfare, because it does not approach the subject from stats and penetration tables but rather gives the perspective of action from the interviewing of actual Soviet tank men. This gives fascinating insight into the mind set of the tanker, the social and political background that they performed against and has a whole load of examples of small scale actions, showing the realities of combat that either our game rules capture or fail to capture.

As an example, the T-34 suddenly come into view at very close quarter with  a German Elephant tank destroyer. I tried to imagine how that would work out with various rules that I have used. Then I read the account ....... not an outcome that I have seen covered in rules!

Anyway, for its price and the fact that it is such a different read than most other books on my Kindle shelf - I am happy to recommend it to anyone wanting the 'feel' of action and how the Soviets actually used / deployed their tanks.

Well Norm, don't tease. What happened when the T34 met the Elefant?

Bang! with a German accent. Bang! with a Russian accent. Smoking wreckage.

Why do people bother to game moderns?

'cos tanks are easier to paint than chariots.

Also, we like "the bang", "der bang", "da bang", and "la pop-pop".

Because I don't know the Sumerian for "For you Meskalamdug ze var iss over?" "Akkadian pig-dog!" or "Achtung Elamite proto-chariot?? ;)
