Doing a solo game, but time is on shortage, so will not go into it that thorough. After all, pics sell  :P :P

Idea is a british assault on a village the outskirts of Caen, trying to break up the german defenses, and draw away german troops from the main line.

setup:

Turn 1:

Off course, we all know that every game starts with the obliged missed command roll.....

Second roll of the game sends the sherman squadron up one move and that's it, then the CO boggs command itself. It's gonna be another one of those games lol

german turn

Only thing the germans wanted to do is reposition a bit, but another failed command roll took care of that... Luckily the co stepped up and got the middle mg and stug in a better position to cover the centre

Turn 2:

The turn starts with a spitfire and a typhoon coming in to hunt the 88's.

The spitfire and typhoon take some AA fire and their attack is reduced, but they both come truogh. THe spitfire doesn't do anything worthwile, but the typhoon finishes the flakvierling and 2 trucks, and pins the 88!

And then, i started cursing at the dice  :'( :'( :'( :'(

german turn

Germans hold the ine!

Turn 3:

With new dice, the british hq orders the infantry to move around the field in single file, after wich he fails yet again.

ditto for the shermans, and bummer for the co. I'm glad this isn't a game in wich you have a number of turns  :o

german turn:

Just the Stug getting transferred to the CO's detachment, getting ready for when the sherman breaks cover

Turn 4:

I'll just shut up and get my coat then...

The shermans are more lucky and get out from cover, only being shot at by the 88, but the lead sherman makes all saves. The 88 is clearly too far away  :P

The stug and marder are closer though  :-\

The co gets thing movingin centre, but the forward 88 OP's the hell out of the lead honey

Not easily deterred, the CO orders another move forward, followed by a command blunder that sends them half a move backward. For the love of god!!!!!  ~X( ~X( ~X( ~X( ~X(

german turn

This one is much more eventfull, popping the other honey, the lead sherman and the firefly, and pinning 2 cromwells.

turn 5

Then the unthinkable happens, they move many times  :o

The shermans get out, one gets pinned and the other drives back the stug

The co gets 2 cromwells moving, with one getting pinned by the pak, while the other gets lucky andgets 2 hits on the bunker

german turn:

only thing worthwhile was the far away 88 hitting a cromwell and setting it alight

turn 6:

BBeing somewhat doubtfull of the hq's ability i let the infantry do initiative actions: The assault takes out the mg and then in the command phase the hq fails. So does the sherman hq

The CO's troop destroy the pak in the bunker.

German turn:

German 88 makes another casualty!!

Turn 7

The brits destroy the 88 in a close assault. Forgot to take a pic of this!

The shermans smoke the stug

The co loses another cromwell to OP fire from the last 88

german turn

The panzerfaust infantry relocate and smoke the last cromwell!

turn 8:

The turn starts with the shermans shooting the infantry gun to pieces, breaking the german force!!

Victory to the british!!!!

What a bloody mess! But exactly how a frontal assault would turn out i believe!

Frustrating game at the start, but played out nice at the end, the germans were only 2 away from breaking the brits too!

Ithoriel

Great stuff! Good narrative, good pics and an interesting game.

However, advancing over basically flat, open ground with no smoke barrage? Send that CO back to Blighty to command a storage depot, where he can do no real harm! :)

Another good report, can't see the British co having a long career!

Argh!! The antidote to eighty-eights is twenty-five pounders, the more the better. ;)
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

I thought the antidote was a typhoon, but it managed to detroy everything around the 88 instead. that's what they call irony i guess...

25 pounders are a placebo for 88s, the real cure is 5.5" guns.
